“Sometimes the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn’t mean to take.” - Angela N. Blount
My life hasn’t looked like I thought it would. I was married by 20 over the Thanksgiving break of my Junior year of college. 9 months later we were pregnant with our first baby. Fast forward a decade, through a lot of debt, counseling, dance parties, and furniture rearranging, we have 3 kids, are still renting, and I haven’t finished my degree. But you know what — I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Yes, there are absolutely things that may have been easier if we would have done things in a more “traditional” way, and probably some heartache and pain we could have avoided. But, that’s not what life had in store for us, and as opposed to resisting that like I used to, I am embracing that. It’s what makes us different, and it’s what makes us us.
For as long as I can remember, when we were in a really tough spot, I would say, “I guess we are just taking the scenic route again.” Meaning, yes, sometimes it has felt like we can’t quite seem to move forward as quickly as we would like, but maybe it’s for a reason. Maybe there is something to see and learn that we wouldn’t have otherwise.
So, if you’re in a place in life that you didn’t expect to be in, just know that you’re in good company. And who knows, maybe you just veered off down the most beautiful road you’ve ever been on.
